Sikeston store set to close

Tuesday, February 3, 2004

SIKESTON - Orscheln Farm and Home is closing their location in Sikeston.

"It was a hard decision to close this location as we have always enjoyed our relationship with the customers who shop in our Sikeston store." said Stephen Chick, president of the farm store retail for Orscheln.

"The town is a natural for our type of business and we have enjoyed many good years taking care of the customers needs," he stated. "Unfortunately we have encountered a lease problem which has hampered our ability to continue our operation there."

Officials said the store's eight employees were offered employment within other stores in the company. Each has expressed a desire to see this closing through to the end, the company said.

Although the closing was not officially announced until today, liquidation at the 1401 E. Malone Ave. location was apparent when driving by with banners and signs announcing it.

We have enlisted the help of Gordon Brothers Retail Group to liquidate the merchandise at this location or will be moving selected items to our locations in Cape Girardeau and Dexter," said Chick, who added early signs show most of the merchandise will sell out during the process.

The sale is expected to last up to 8 weeks.

Although the Sikeston location is closing, Orscheln will continue to operate stores in Dexter, Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff.
