Bell City downs Chaffee in two

BELL CITY -- Chaffee's volleyball team faced another tough opponent on Tuesday, losing to Bell City in straight sets. The Lady Red Devils lost the first set 2-15, then the second 3-15.

"I thought we played pretty well tonight," said Chaffee coach David Mirly. "We had a lot of digs, we just couldn't make a kill. There were a lot of rallies, but we couldn't put it away. We played pretty decent."

Jennifer Vandeven had a big night, finishing with 28 digs, four kills, two points, one ace and had one block. Natalie Townsend had five blocks, seven digs, two kills and one point.

Ashley Graham had 14 digs, two kills and one block. Mallory Kiefer had four blocks, 15 digs and one kill. Ashton Lee had six digs, one block and two points. Lindsey Everett had two blocks and two kills. Molly Fowler had eight digs and Samantha Hendricks contributed one kill.

Chaffee (6-14) will travel to Hayti tonight. On Monday, the Lady Red Devils lost to Scott City 5-15, 7-15.

BLOOMFIELD -- With Amber Seyer and Jessica Prino out of the lineup, Oran's volleyball team struggled against Bloomfield on Tuesday night.

The Lady Wildcats won the first set 15-12 and the second 15-5.

For Oran, Teresa Hodges had seven points, six kills and five blocks. Carmen Duncan had five points and five blocks.

Oran (9-12) will travel to NMCC tonight for a 6 p.m. match.

PORTAGEVILLE -- Portageville's volleyball team defeated Campbell in straight sets on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first one 15-4, then the second 15-6.

Jo Beth DeLisle led the team in kills with 10. Beth St. Mary had 11 assists and Mindy Stafford contributed 10.

Portageville (12-12) will travel to Chaffee on Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs also won the junior varsity contest 15-2, 15-7.
