Velma Sams
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Velma Sams, 95, formerly of Dexter, died May 23, 2002, at the Luthern Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born March 26, 1907, in Columbus, Ky., daughter of the late George and Lala Gardner Lochridge, she was a former employee of A & P Tea Company and was of the Methodist belief.
On March 17, 1924, in Charleston, she married Clois W. Sams who preceded her in death on April 12, 1963.
Survivors include: one son, Winiford D. Sams of Fenton; one sister, Mildred Diebold of Kelso; and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Also preceding her death were four brothers, Claude Lochridge, Robert Lochridge, Gardner Lochridge and Bill Gardner; and three sisters, Virgie Hensley, Maude Jones and Mary Louise Lochridge.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with the Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating.
Burial will follow in the Burkley Cemetery in Bardwell, Ky.
