SIKESTON - The Sikeston ninth grade football team lost to Caruthersville's junior varsity on Monday 20-12 at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.

Caruthersville jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Sikeston rallied in the second half but it was not enough.

"We came out with a lot more intensity," said Sikeston junior high head coach Chris Crosby. "I feel like we played a full game. We played better and put together a complete game. Caruthersville had some really big kids but it was their jayvee team."

Sikeston got on the board in the third quarter when quarterback Jordan Phencie found B.J. Green for a 10-yard touchdown catch.

Caruthersville moved ahead 20-6, but the Bulldogs cut the gap to 20-12 when Travis Hudson scored on a 17-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Sikeston was led by Acie Dixon's 172 yards rushing on just seven carries. Hudson followed up with 66 yards on four carries. Greg Hatchett added 20 yards on two carries.

Sikeston (2-3) will be back in action on Saturday morning at Cape Central at 10 a.m.
