WAPPAPELLO - Helen Fisher of Morehouse entertained a group of friends at her parents' summer home here Friday night. The guests were: Mary Louise Montgomery, Betty Jo Gross, Esther Jane Greer, Gwendolyn Kirk and Mrs. William Simmons.

SIKESTON - The following students were selected to attend Missouri Girls State June 17-23: Melinda Bucher, Linda Byrd, Janet Gray, Karen Stephensen, Marilyn Conrad, Elizabeth Wilkins, Margaret Watson and Sue Hopper.

SIKESTON - An 83-year-old Sikeston man was conned out of $3,000 by a method called a "pigeon drop." Ben Chambers told the Sikeston DPS two men, one white and one black, conned him out of money at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

SIKESTON - A recent decision to discontinue drivers education in the local school has left many parents and soon-to-be drivers surprised, disappointed and frustrated. The drivers education program has been part of the curriculum at Sikeston Senior High since the 1950s, but as of July 1, it will be no longer available. The reason, school officials say, is lack of funding.


SIKESTON - Every member of Savings of America had at least one hit as the team touched Noranda's pitchers for 20 safeties. W. Wilson tripled three times and T. Deere had three hits, while M. Davis, J. Monroe, J. Carter, T. Sloan and Z. Bell had two each. Others with its were D. Underhill, J. Neal, S. Sanders and C. Peters. Noranda's T. Finnell, J. Cannon, T. Nelson and B. Dodd had two hits and B. Keefer, C. Palmer, D. Tellow and L. Cauthorn one. Savings of America overtook Noranda with a final 15-3.
