All scores improve on second day of rodeo

SIKESTON - The 50th Annual 2002 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo resumed on Thursday night with some top performances.

Thursday's times and scores were improved in every event except in bareback riding.

In that event, Wes Stevenson of Kaufman, Tex., won with a score of 84. Chris Harris of Arlington, Tex., took second with 79 points and Chuck Logue and Tyson Thompson each tied for third with 75 points.

In the saddle bronc riding event, Otey McCloy of Marshall, Mo., took first with 79 points. Billy Etbauer of South Dakota followed up with 77 points while Cody Martin (74) and Rod Hay (73) finished in third and fourth place respectively.

In bull riding, Robey Condra of Dayton, Tex., won with 91 points. Logan Knibbe of Rockdale, Tex., had 87 points and Johnny Chavez of Bosque, Minn., took third with 83 points.

In calf roping, Cleveland, Tex., native Ricky Canton won with a time of 9.5 seconds. Oklahoman Jerome Schneeberger took second with a time of 10.1 seconds.

Tyler Pittman (10.5) and Kadin Boardman (10.8) took third and fourth place respectively.

In steer wrestling, Noel Strahan of Bourbonnaise, Ill., won with a time of 3.6 seconds. Shawn Johnson and Pete Owenby also broke the four-second barrier with times of 3.9 seconds to tie for second place.

Ronnie Fields from Oklahoma City took fourth at 4.3 seconds.

In barrel racing, Terry, Miss., native Patti Higdon, who took second in Wednesday night's racing, took first on Thursday with a time of 16.04.

Donna Bailey of Guthrie, Ok., took second at 16.36 and Marshall, Wis., native Lori Sanders finished in third with a time of 16.44.

Rodeo action will continue tonight and Saturday night.
