Continuance granted in murder case

SIKESTON - Two men charged in the shooting death of a Sikeston man will returned to court Wednesday.

Andrew B. Laura, 21, originally from Indianapolis, Ind. and who was living with relatives in Sikeston, and Marcus Johnson, 25, of 14 W. Murray Lane in Sikeston, were granted a continuance to 9 a.m. Wednesday before Judge Charles Spitler in Division II of New Madrid County Circuit Court following their last court appearance. The two are charge in the July 16 shooting death of Steven White.

Laura is charged with armed criminal action and first degree murder. Johnson faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery in the first degree and second degree murder. Both are being held in the New Madrid County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond.

The two men were arrested July 30 by officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

According to statements made by DPS, the men had intended on robbing the victim and had gone to his house. When a struggle ensued, Laura is accused of shooting White. White was found dead at the scene by his girlfriend.
