LILBOURN - First Lt. Kenneth Twitty, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Twitty of Lilbourn and brother of Marty Etta Twitty of Sikeston, has been reported missing in action over New Guinea since Dec. 1, according to word received by his parents. His brothers are Capt. Lynn Twitty, now stationed at an air station in the Pacific, and Chief Yoeman John W. Twitty of the Seabees, stationed at Joliet, Ill.

MOREHOUSE - Morehouse Lodge 603 AF&AM elected Don Harris worshipful master at its regular meeting. Other officers elected are O.E. Stinnett, senior warden; Frank Parrish, treasurer; and Guy Comer, secretary.

Dec. 16, 1983

BENTON - The Scott County R-4 Board of Education met in special session Friday to open bids for the school property in Benton. The board accepted the high bid of $22,500 which was submitted by the Benton Chamber of Commerce. This property is the site of the old Benton High School.

MINER - Alderman Donald Holman opposed Miner City Hall remodeling to the last, but work is nearly completed and payments finally made. In a special meeting last week, the Miner Board of Aldermen voted to enter into an agreement with the First National Bank of Sikeston for $150,000 in city hall financing. The agreement came two months after past-due pay estimates from Bridger Construction for work on the city hall.


SIKESTON - Although still short of their goal, United Way officials are optimistic local recipients won't have to go without anticipated funding this year. An estimated $15,000 is needed to reach the 1993 United Way Fund goal of $76,000. "We are very optimistic we will reach our goal," said board member Mike Ruble.
