VANDUSER - A fire of undetermined origin swept through the Vanduser Gin Company Sunday causing damage to the main gin, estimated at $15,000 and destroying five bales of cotton and other equipment.
SIKESTON - David Blanton, Sikeston attorney, will be one of 11 trial layers from the Midwest who will comprise a panel to discuss "Products Liability Law" at the 20th annual meeting of the Missouri Bar Associaton in St. Louis Sept. 10 and 11. Hal Hunter Jr. of New Madrid will also be among the lawyers on the panel.
EAST PRAIRIE - A new city clerk was appointed by Mayor Marty Hutcheston Thursday afternoon with the approval of the City Council. Jerri Robinson was named to fill the vacancy created by the suspension and subsequent resignation of former clerk Carlotta Kersey. In announcing the appointment, Hutcheson noted 27 applications had been submitted for the position and of that total, six personal interviews were conducted.
SIKESTON - Dove season opened today, attracting hunters to the sandy fields of Southeast Missouri. Justin Wibbenmeyer was among them, and he stalked a bird through a field north of Sikeston. The season ends on Oct. 31.
CANALOU - David Faries and Helen Drake were voted king and queen of Rodeo Week at Sells Rest Home. The royalty was chosen following a vote by staff and residents. Both are from Canalou. Also as part of the rodeo week activities, the clowns from the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo visited with residents.
