Dexter netters blank Lady Bulldogs, 9-0

SIKESTON - The Sikeston tennis team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 9-0 shutout loss to Dexter on Wednesday at Sikeston High School.

None of the matches were close with the exception of two. The number one singles match between Sikeston freshman Jenni DeWitt and Dexter's Molly Jarrell.

Jarrell won the match 9-8 (7-5 in a tiebreaker). In doubles DeWitt and Chelsea Gilliland teamed up to lose to Jarrell and Amanda Dooley 5-8.

"Inexperience hurt us today," said Sikeston coach Lynne DeWitt. "Some of the matches were closer than the scores showed. Hopefully as the year goes on we will win more and gain the experience that we need."

In other singles matches, Gilliland lost to Dooley 1-8; Tess Marshall lost to Claire Critchlow 1-8; Britney Bohannon lost to Summer Cartner 3-8; Jessica Colwick lost to Brittney Bagby 1-8; and Emily Bowman lost to Taylor Nelson 1-8.

In doubles, Bohannon/Bowman lost to Critchlow/Carter 2-8 and Marshall/Colwick lost to Bagby/Nelson 4-8.

Sikeston had no winners in the junior varsity. Dexter got junior varsity winners out of Claire Kinchen, Claire Burleson, Megan Bush, Kristen Bush, Lindsay Horton, Lauren Miller, Caitlyn Pyles and Jessica Lemmons.

In doubles, Kinchen/Burleson, Bush/Bush, Horton/Miller and Kristen Mick/Emily Vines all posted victories.
