SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stallings are parents of a baby boy born Friday at Sikeston General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schmidt are parents of a baby boy born Saturday.

SIKESTON - Democratic Circuit Judge Marshall Craig of Sikeston filed for re-election in the 33rd judicial circuit, composed of Mississippi and Scott counties. Judge Craig has been on the circuit bench since 1955.

SIKESTON - Current federal legislation proposed to curb acid rain in the northeastern United States and Canada should not affect the Sikeston Power Plant, although it could prove costly to other electric utility consumers in Southeast Missouri. According to Bruce Condit of Springfield, manager of information services, the Associated Electric Co.'s plant at New Madrid is not equipped with the needed air pollution control equipment. Sikeston's power plant is already prepared for the possible air pollution requirements.

SIKESTON - The subdividing and rezoning of land in the northern section of Sikeston will open the area up for business growth, according to developer David Strom. He attended Wednesday's meeting of the City Council, where council members considered the subdividing of property located cross the street from Missouri Delta Medical Center. The land already has neighborhood commercial zoning - the least intense form of commercial zoning - and is owned by the Moore family. The area, to be named Delta Professional Park, was divided into six lots.


SIKESTON - Workers with Ferrell Excavating were busy recently removing bleacher seats at the Jaycee Rodeo Grounds. Plans call for more box seats, pouring concrete bases and adding more bleacher seats.
