CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Sikeston's eighth grade basketball team lost 40-32 to Cape Central in the Cape Central Tournament on Wednesday night.
"We played this same bunch in our first game of the year and they blew us out," said Sikeston coach Kevin Self. "Tonight, we cut it to two with a minute and a half to go. We had a chance to win, but the ball just didn't bounce our way. I was pleased with our effort. We just came out on the short end."
Sikeston was led by Scott Droddy with nine points and Dominique McCray with seven. As a team, the Bulldogs shot just 2-of-11 from the foul line.
"That was the difference right there," said Self. "If we shoot 50 percent or better and get a rebound here or there, we probably win this game."
Cape Central was led by Walker with 18.
Sikeston (5-6) will play Poplar Bluff for third place tonight at 6 p.m.
