Walter "Gooden" Tanner Jr., 85, died Jan. 22, 2004, at his home.
Born Dec. 27, 1918, in Portageville, he was the son of the late Walter A. and Eula Montgomery Tanner.
On Oct. 5, 1940, at Portageville, he married Estalee Pool who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Winona Koen of Portageville; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Alba Mae Howard of Brunswick, Ga., Syble and Denzle Willey of Memphis, Tenn., Wilma and Gene Underwood, Betty Sue Ellis and Norma and Ralph Sander, all of Portageville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Minette and Bruce Eftink of Memphis, Lisa and Roger Rossics of St. Louis and Tod Koen of Connecticut; four great-grandchildren, Trey Rossics, Lindsay Eftink, Alyson Eftink and Erin Rossics; and close friends of the families who were like daughters, Mary Wilson of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Ann Munson of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald Tanner, in February 1986; and two brothers, Lloyd and Sibert Tanner.
Visitation is at 6 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Revs. Ron Shrum and Mike Melton will officiate. Burial will following the Portageville Cemetery.
