SIKESTON - Major T.C. Dye, who has been in a hospital in San Diego, suffering from yellow jaundice, is reported to be much improved.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Jaycees have announced the signing of one of the leading performers in the entertainment world today for the 10th annual Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo to be held in Sikeston Sept. 13-16. Rex Allen, a movie, radio and TV star, has been signed to headline the Rodeo performance.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bootheel South Senior Babe Ruth All-Star team stars district tournament play Sunday at VFW Stadium. Members are Barry Spooler and John Ferrell, Jaycees; Brad Priday, Damon Deal, Bert Perry and Kendal Ayres, Elks; John Fair, Ziegenhorn; and Gary Reno, Pat Kelley, Terry McCrate, Kevin Ash, Steve Mauk, Pat Klipfel and Sammy Lawson, all of Portageville.


SIKESTON - After graduating in 1978 with honors from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a degree in biochemistry, Stephen Richey Smith immediately began his four-year course in medical school, which was completed on May 15. The 1974 graduate of Sikeston High School is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Linn Smith of Sikeston.

SIKESTON - An 11-year-old boy and his father, Hollywood, Fla., residents, recently found $500,000 in a rusty ammunition box. Their dreams of easy money were shattered when they discovered the money was counterfeit and had to be turned over to U.S. Treasury agents.


SIKESTON - Long John Silvers split a pair of games, losing to Ruff's Welding 14-4 Tuesday and edging Jaycees 14-13 Wednesday in girl's softball. Triangle won a Thursday game, 7-5.
