SIKESTON -- H. Cline Carter, 89, died at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 7, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1914, at Oran, son of the late Frank and Addie Carter, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sikeston. He lived in Oran until his sophomore year in high school when the family moved to Cape Girardeau, where he graduated from Central High School in 1931. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1946. In 1946, he and his wife settled in Sikeston, where he started Carter's Delivery Service and operated it for many years. He later became a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, serving until his retirement in January 1979.
On July 31, 1940, he married Marjorie Burke who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sisters and brothers-in-law, Priscilla and Lester Wagner of St. Louis and Patricia and Tony Seabaugh of Hot Springs Village, Ark.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Shannon Carter, and one sister, Pauline Stewart.
He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and many friends. And he will be remembered for his gentle spirit and ready smile.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Rick Lasley, pastor of Welsey United Methodist Church, will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. David Jackson, associate pastor of First Baptist Church.
Burial with full military rites will follow in the Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
