The Sikeston 10-year-old all-star team
SIKESTON -- The Sikeston 10-year-old all-star team won the district tournament July 6 in Sikeston to qualify for the state tournament in Kennett.

Team members of the Sikeston 10-year-old district team are first row: Jimmy Obermark, Jason Isaacs, Cody Rice, Tanner Bryant, Ronnie Pyland, Jayme Milam. Second row: Colton Young, Wesley Glaus, Josh Carlyle, Andrew McDowell, Jeff Long, Kaili Lambert. Coaches: Dan Obermark, Jeff Young, Steve Carlyle.

DEXTER -- Sikeston's 13-year-old all-star team took second place in the district tournament, qualifying for state.

The squad lost 12-6 to a loaded Dexter team in the first game on Thursday to fall into the loser's bracket. Sikeston came back to beat Kennett 19-2 on Friday.

On Saturday the team had to play a doubleheader, beating Caruthersville 17-2 and East Prairie/New Madrid 16-3. The wins put Sikeston into the championship on Sunday, where they lost a thriller to Dexter, 17-13.

Hustle awards in the tournament were given out to Stan Ivie, Strick Green, Chris Carnell, Zach Culver and Justin Deere.

The games were pitched by Josh Jackson, Carnell and Green. Since Dexter is hosting the state playoffs, Sikeston's second place finish qualified for state.

The Bulldogs will play at Dexter on Thursday in the first round at 8 p.m.
