Sharks place third in season opener

CARUTHERSVILLE -- Sikeston's swim team opened the 2002 season at Caruthersville on Saturday, taking third place in a meet with four area teams.

Kennett was the host team, but the event took place at Caruthersville due to no pool in Kennett. The Kennett squad ended up winning the meet with 1,079.5 points.

Cape Girardeau's Gator Swim Team came in second with 805.5 points, followed by Sikeston with 619 and Jackson with 471. Morgan Fraser broke three Sikeston team records. She ran the table in the girls 9-10 division, winning all five events she entered. She took first in the 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 Free and 100 IM.

Ben F. Marshall also set a new team record. He took first in four out of five events in the boys 15-18 class, winning the 100 Back, 100 Breast, 50 Free and 200 IM.

Lauren Medley won the 13-14 girls 100 Breast, and Megan Nelson won the 15-18 girls 100 fly. Amanda Allen took first place in the 8 and Under 25 breast.

The relay team of Mary Kendig, Amanda Allen, Emily Bloemer and Annie Pewitt took first in the girls 8 and under 100 medley.

The boys 15-18 200 medley team of Ryan McGee, Tony Reynolds, Josh Atchley and Joey Pierce also took first with a time of 2:19.40.

The 15-18 boys 200 free team of Josh Atchley, Joey Pierce, Tony Reynolds and Ryan McGee took first with a time of 2:23.52.
