SCOTT CITY - R.E. "Gene" Reed, 87, died at 8 p.m. Dec. 6, 2003, at his home.
Born June 5, 1916, at Illmo to the late Peter and Dora Russell Reed, he was a conductor with the Cotton Belt and Southern Pacific Railroad retiring in 1986. A member of the Illmo United Methodist Church, he was a member of the Harold O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672 in Cape Girardeau and served as a Navy Seal during World War II.
On Oct. 31, 1941, at Cape Girardeau, he married Maxine Hinton, who survives of Scott City.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Dorothy Taylor of Fenton, Kay Elliott of O'Fallon and Peggy Reed and Sally Porch of Scott City; her twin sister, Irene Bachman of Cape Girardeau; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Two brothers preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jim Woeltje will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Cape Girardeau County Memorial Park Cemetery.
