SIKESTON -- A man and woman are in custody after robbing Breaktime Convenience Store early Saturday morning.
Robert Ian Bettin, 28, from the state of New York, and Amberel L. Davenport, 21, of Monett were arrested as suspects in the armed robbery. They were held by the New Madrid County authorities and no bond was set.
According to the clerk on duty at Breaktime, a vehicle pulled up to the gasoline islands Saturday around 1:30 a.m. After pumping gas, the car pulled around the north side of the building while the person pumping gas entered the store. The suspect pulled out a pistol, demanded the money from the register and then left around the north side of the building.
A regional dispatch was put out to area law enforcement and approximately 45 minutes later a vehicle matching the suspect's was stopped on Interstate 55 at the 42 mile marker by a New Madrid City Police officer.
According to statements by the driver, they had left a gas station in Sikeston earlier and the passenger matched the description of the suspect. A BB pistol was also found in the car during the stop.
After viewing the store video an officer from DPS responded to the stop and was able to identify the passenger as the suspect. Both Bettin and Davenport were taken into custody and transported to DPS headquarters for questioning. During the questioning the suspects confessed to the robbery.
