POPLAR BLUFF -- Caruthersville running back Jimmy Jackson won the Carr Trophy on Wednesday night, an award that honors the best football player in Southeast Missouri.
The award was given out at the 58th annual Poplar Bluff Letter Club Gridiron Banquet in Poplar Bluff.
Outstanding Lineman awards were also handed out. In the SEMO North, it was given to Cape Central's Darren Neels. The SEMO Central award went to New Madrid County Central's Brandon Waters. The SEMO South award went to East Prairie's Jacob Poore.
Conference scoring awards were given to Poplar Bluff's Todd Tinsley (84), Caruthersville's Jackson (212) and Portageville's Antonio Scott (108).
Coach of the Year awards went to Poplar Bluff's Mike Dormady, Caruthersville's David Gilmore and Portageville's Jim McKay.
The club also handed out the first ever SEMO Football Officials Sportsmanship Award, which was voted on by area refs. The award was given to the Sikeston Bulldogs.
The "Mule Skinner" Award was given to Jamie Edington. The AMVETS Post 29 Sportsmanship Award was given to Kyle Montgomery. The Johnny Piper Memorial Football Award was given to Mark Mannon. The Poplar Bluff Elks Lodge "Derland Moore" Award was given to Steve Atteberry.
