BERNIE - James Alex Lovins, 85, died July 15, 2002, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born Dec. 19, 1916, in Wayne County, son of the late James Henry and Margrit Scritchfields Lovins, he was a retired farmer and member of the Powe Baptist Church.

On Oct. 12, 1935, at Kennett, he married Ruth Nell Teeters who preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 2000.

Survivors include: one son, James Charles Lovins of Bernie; two daughters, Linda R. Miller and Kathy Ann Cagle of Bernie; one sister, Nell Brown of Rector, Ark.; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Marie Hicks; one brother, Edward Lovins; and two sisters, Ellen Jelks and Mae Jackson.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, where services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Marion Gipson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
