Looking Back in Time at Dec. 4

Thursday, December 4, 2003

SIKESTON - The Rev. J.T. Self is a gardener who made his efforts pay this season. From his small garden, Mr. Self sold truck vegetables in the amount of $170. In addition, they have enough canned foods stored in the basement from the garden to last for a period of a year.

SIKESTON - Thanks to the funds to be received in a settlement of anti-trust suits brought by the City of Sikeston against General Electric and Westinghouse, Sikeston's white way will be extended to the new city limits. Both south and north of Kingshighway will have vapor lights installed from the south Y to the north Y and dark spots in the residential district will be eliminated.

SIKESTON - Judy Brock, formerly of Sikeston, was named in the top 16 finalists at the Miss Missouri USA Beauty Pageant held at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in November. She was one of 104 pageant entries. Miss Brock is employed at the Sheraton Inn in Springfield and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Brock of Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Pets offer their owners unconditional love, companionship and loyalty. In return, they ask only for affection, shelter and nourishment. Yet many are "rewarded" for their devotion by being abandoned. The Sikeston Bootheel Humane Society is conducting its eighth annual membership drive and asking for support in its "Oh Christmas Tree" fund-raiser.

SIKESTON - Local residents will have the opportunity to participate in a day and an evening of winter beauty and scholarship pageants Jan. 15. Sponsored by the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce and the local Miss Missouri Board of Directors, the event will include eight categories of competition.
