SIKESTON - Sikeston High School news: Four new freshmen were enrolled in the high school Monday morning. They are: LaWanda Jean Canney of Poplar Bluff, Verna Irene Cox of St. Louis, Cecil Mae Little of Vanduser and Tommy Turner of Sikeston.

BLOOMFIELD - The voters of the Bloomfield R-14 School District will vote Tuesday on a $300,000 bond issue for the purpose of erecting a departmental building and a new cafeteria.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Jacqueline Scott, formerly of Sikeston, is becoming increasingly in demand for leading roles in television shows here. Within the last three months, Miss Scott has worked in "The Fugitive," "Outer Limits" and "Channing," all seen on ABC-TV.

SIKESTON - Ralph Gastelum assumed the duties Tuesday as publisher and general manager of The Daily Standard. Gastelum's 30-year newspaper career began in the early 1950s.

SIKESTON - The Daughters of Sunset will join the Progressive Homemaker Extension Club in hosting their 9th Annual Recognition Awards program scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church. This year's honorees are Public Safety Officer Shirley Porter, Gearlie Boyd and Ruth Eliza "Polly" Calhoun.

PORTAGEVILLE - The cast was different. The plot took a new twist. The final scene was the same. Portageville began defense of three straight Class 2A state championships Tuesday by dominating Chaffee 78-21. The score wasn't far from last year's 83-22 final.
