Sikeston 12-and-under all-stars lose final game in Cal Ripken World Series

MATTOON, Ill. -- The Sikeston 12-and-under all-star team lost its fourth and final game on Thursday 15-5 to California in the Cal Ripken World Series.

California scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

Sikeston got two runs back in the bottom of the first, cutting the lead to 6-2.

California scored two runs in the third while Sikeston scored one. California scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth to open up a 15-3 lead.

Sikeston scored two in the bottom of the fifth but couldn't muster any more.

Nick Lambert was saddled with the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned) off eight hits with four walks.

But while he struggled on the hill, he thrived at the plate. Lambert went 2-3 with four RBIs including a two-run home run to centerfield in the first inning.

Garrett Limbaugh went 3-3 with two runs scored. Scott Droddy added a hit with an RBI. Hunter Dillender and Josh Pierce also had hits for Sikeston.

Sikeston wrapped up its tournament with an 0-4 record.
