DEXTER - Billy Carl Flowers, 72, died Jan. 17, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 9, 1932, in Plummerville, Ark., son of the late A.O. and Wilma Flowers, he owned Flowers' Fish Farms and was a biology, chemistry and physics teacher for the Dexter School District before retiring. A veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, he attended the Dexter Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder. A pioneer of the aquaculture industry, he was a charter member and past president of the Missouri Fish Farmer Association.
On Dec. 19, 1953, in Hernando, Miss., he married Joyce Jane Averett who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley Carl and Sue Flowers, Timothy Lynn and Kim Flowers and Robert "Kevin" and Kelly Flowers of Dexter; six grandchildren, Alana McRoy, Clayton Flowers, Aleshia Flowers, Delaney Flowers, Owen Flowers and Ethan Flowers of Dexter; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Flowers in infancy; and one granddaughter, Anastasia Flowers.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dexter Church of Christ.
Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
