On the roll with ATV Cycle World
SIKESTON - If Billy Clayton isn't out on his motorcycle or four-wheeler, you will find him inside ATV Cycle World introducing someone else to the world of cycling.
Clayton, who manages ATV Cycle World for owner Larry James, is enthusiastic about ATVs and motorcycles. "I've been riding all my life and racing for the last 20 years," explained Clayton. And he has made the vehicles his business putting his knowledge about them to use for the customers who walk in the door at ATV Cycle World, 2832 A East Malone Ave., just a quarter mile east of Interstate 55.
Open since November, ATV Cycle World offers Arctic Cat all-terrain vehicles along with Kawasaki motorcycles, ATVs, generators and jet skis.
Along with a large selection of new and used vehicles, customers will find all the accessories to go along with riding from helmets to jackets to boots.
As the word gets out about ATV Cycle World, they are drawing customers from across Southeast Missouri, Arkansas and Illinois. "Business really has been pretty good," acknowledged Clayton.
ATVs are popular with hunters and as work vehicles around the farm or home, he explained, while the motorcycles are the choice for recreational riders.
"Some people use their ATVs to pull snowblades or for yardwork or on the farm. A motorcycle might be a choice for someone wanting a more inexpensive way to get to work - some models get 80 to 90 miles to the gallon and will pay for themselves in no time," said Clayton, who paused then added: "And there is a certain amount of freedom to riding a motorcycle...."
Formerly with C&C Cycle, Clayton still recalls what it was like to buy his first motorcycle. He said he uses that understanding to help him guide customers in selecting the best vehicle for their use.
"Your warranty is only as good as your dealer," said Clayton. "Here, our goal is to take care of the customer."
ATV Cycle World depends on Clayton's knowledge and the working knowledge of his staff, Leslie Thompson, office manager, and Chris Jones, service manager, to ensure the vehicles and equipment meet customers' expectations.
A big part of their customer service, Clayton added, is servicing the vehicles they sell along with other models. Jones' years of experience as a motorcycle and ATV mechanic give the business an edge over many competitors, Clayton said with pride.
"We try to know everything we can about what we sell. We not only want to be able to tell people what they need but why they need it," Clayton added.
This includes not only the vehicles but the accessories and parts available. ATV Cycle World has an array of racing gear, hunting accessories, winches and performance accessories for customers to choose.
Now is a good time to look into purchasing, according to Clayton. While the 2003 models have been out since the fall, new financing packages are promoted in the spring. Currently some models are being sold with zero money down with no payments or interests until January 2004, he said.
ATV Cycle world is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and by appointment by calling 472-4002.
