SIKESTON -- Sikeston softball players Molly Brinkmeyer and Misti Clark were both honorable mention selections for the Class 4 all-district team this year.
"I was really proud of them," said Sikeston coach Jenny Hobeck. "Since I've been here, we haven't had anybody make all-district. It's a big honor, especially for Molly, who is just a freshman."
Brinkmeyer was honored as a third baseman. This year her batting average was .475. She finished with 25 singles, nine doubles, three triples, one home run and 28 RBIs. She also scored 23 runs and was the team's top pitcher, recording 67 strikeouts.
"She came in and had a really good year," said Hobeck. "I'm really excited about next year with her and the other freshmen as well."
Clark, a senior, was honored as a catcher. She batted .255 this year with an on-base percentage of .375. She had seven singles, three doubles, two triples, one home run and scored eight runs.
"It's really good for Misti, being her senior year," said Hobeck. "She was a good leader this year and worked hard."
The two led Sikeston to a 7-9 season, their best finish since moving to the fall season.
"They both played a big role," said Hobeck. "Both of them are very vocal and keep the lines of communication open. Both of them are pumped up all the time and really keep the team's spirit up."
