SIKESTON -- Scott County Central first-year basketball coach and athletic director Melvin Porter has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school, for allegedly making ill-suited comments.

"There have been some allegations that he said some inappropriate things," explained Scott Central superintendent Jo Anne Northern. "He has been accused of making inappropriate comments and we're investigating those at this time. We are trying to work things out."

Scott Central's basketball team will be coached by girls coach Semona Penrod until the investigation is complete.

"When there is a conflict with girls games, we'll have to work something out, but that's the plan right now," said Northern. "We've only got a couple games, then districts left, so we're working around it."

Under the direction of Porter, Scott Central had a record of 10-13 this year.
