SIKESTON - From somewhere in England, where he is stationed as an Army Air Force bombardier, Staff Sgt. Ralph Carroll writes his mother that there are "Lots of historical places to keep your mind busy."

SIKESTON - Five carrier boys of the Daily Sikeston Standard received awards for outstanding performance of their duties during the last year at a carriers' outing at the Shelter House in City Park. They are: Tommy Paullus, Dickie Nelson and Dale Brown of Sikeston routes; Charles Wibbenmeyer of Miner; and Larry McMikle of East Prairie.

SIKESTON - A report of a new industry coming to the Sikeston area and an address by the chairman of the marketing department at Southeast Missouri State University are slated during the Thursday noon general membership meeting of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce. The Sikeston Development Council plans to make an announcement of new industry coming to the Sikeston area.

SIKESTON - The machines are moving rapidly through the fields, picking what may be one of the biggest cotton crops in years. "Everything looks pretty good," said Mike Milam, agronomy specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Service. Milam attributes the increased yield to rain falling just at the right times. However, cooler summer temperatures put this year's harvest about two weeks later than normal.


SIKESTON - The Highway Patrol team defeated the Sandblasters to take top honors at the third annual Rotary Park Beach Volleyball Tournament. The patrol won with a score of 15-8, 11-15 and 15-13.
