SIKESTON -- Sikeston's volleyball team was defeated by Puxico on Thursday 3-15, 12-15.

The Lady Bulldogs have now lost three straight, heading into this weekend's Three Rivers Tournament.

"We were kind of hopped up," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler. "It was senior night, and for some reason, the girls were very nervous. I don't know if it was thinking this was the last time they were going to play here, or if it was playing in front of people we normally don't play in front of. I can't explain it."

Paige Kaiser had six service points, followed by Joy Daniel with five and Emily Slaten with two. Tara Shoemaker, Rachael Vining and Erin Box each contributed one.

"Puxico has got a very young, yet good, defensive team," said Beydler. "I've got to hand it to them, they've come a long way."

CHAFFEE -- Portageville's volleyball team defeated Chaffee in straight sets on Thursday, 16-14, 15-12.

Lauren Williams led the Lady Bulldogs in kills with eight. Beth St. Mary has seven assists, and Mindy Stafford contributed eight.

Lindsey Everett contributed two digs and two kills.

"We had a lead at the end of the game, but weren't able to hold on," said Chaffee coach David Mirly. "We just couldn't put them away. (Portageville) carried that momentum into the second game. We were able to battle back in the second game, but we just couldn't pull it off."

Chaffee (7-15) will travel to Zalma on Monday. Portageville (13-12) will host the Bootheel Conference Tournament, which starts on Tuesday.

Portageville also won Thursday's junior varsity match 15-6, 15-12.
