SIKESTON - The Sikeston Teen-Town will have its grand opening Friday in the high school gymnasium. This will be a housewarming for the project and everyone between the ages of 12 and 16 inclusive is invited.

SIKESTON - Selection of Jim Caldwell of Amory, Miss., as Sikeston's new economic development specialist was announced during a Saturday afternoon press conference at the Ramada Inn. Caldwell brings to the SDC 16 years of experience as a chief executive officer of economic development groups. He is scheduled to assume the Sikeston Development Council position on June 15.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Convalescent Center celebrated June as National Rose Month by holding its fourth annual Ms. Sikeston Convalescent Center Queen of Roses Contest Friday. Lena Harris was names Ms. SCC Queen of Roses. Runners up are Ida Crawford, second runner-up; Mary Wornica, first runner-up; Bess Elder, third runner-up. Each contestant was sponsored by a different group of staff members. The winner was determined on a penny-a-vote basis. Randy Allstun provided entertainment and George Stevens, SCC administrator was emcee.

RISCO - About a mile southwest of Risco, a tornado apparently dropped out of the clouds around 6:10 p.m. Sunday at the Keenan Carlisle home. The storm uprooted a large tree and blew shingles off the residence.


SIKESTON - Drew Akins, the son of Andy and Nan Akins of Sikeston, was the first runner-up in the Little King and Queen pageant sponsored by the New Madrid Eagles Aerie 4206.
