SIKESTON -- Marcella B. Layton, 83, died at 4:10 a.m. Jan. 31, 2003, at the Lutheran Home.
Born May 26, 1919, in Morrisonville, Ill., daughter of the late Herman Elmer and Mary Brockamp Todt, she lived in Sikeston most of her life. She had been a saleslady for Norton Shoe, J.C. Penney and the LaPetite Shop and was a clerk at the Associated Natural Gas Company before retiring. A member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, she was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Sodality.
On June 1, 1939, in Sikeston, she married John Anthony Layton who preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1987.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Mary Sue Layton of Cape Girardeau; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Richard Sandvos and Anita Ballard of Sikeston and Patti and Jerry Obermark of Memphis, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister also preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, where a prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Monsignor Richard Rolwing, pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau and the Rev. Stephen A. Schneider, pastor of St. Francis Xavier Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Rick Sandvos, Dave Sandvos, Matt Sandvos, Mark Sandvos, Bob Evans and Jay Obermark.
