SIKESTON - High school highlights: Robert Walker has announced his highest grades up to date for his social science classes. These do not include the final semester grades. Leading in his American History class is Louise Skelton with 905 points and Jeanne Jackson with 866. In his Citizens Class, Donna Lee Tanner leads with 509 points and Charles Boyd with 497. In World History, Frank Schulte with 619 and Ann Hatfield with 618.

SIKESTON - Three Sikeston contracting firms submitted low bids on the 11-room addition to the Senior High School and Ryan Construction Co. was the lowest and successful bidder with its bid of $147,844.

SIKESTON - A pizza party was held at the Sikeston Convalescent Center Wednesday for residents and their families. Employees of the center explained that the hour-long event was conducted as a morale booster to fight post-holiday depression which sometimes follows a busy Yuletide season.

SIKESTON - With the first phase of testing complete, officials with Sikeston Light and Water say the city's fresh water supply is well below EPA standards for lead and copper content.

SIKESTON - Local youths between the ages of 8 and 19 will learn how to ride and rope thanks to the formation of the Scott County 4-H Rodeo Club. Kids will participate in 4-H rodeos by barrel racing, calf and steer riding, team roping, chute dogging and goat tying.

SIKESTON - United Way donations topped $78,648 in the most recent campaign, exceeding the stated goal by 3 percent. It is a tribute to the community that such a level of contributions was reached.
