NEW MADRID - Viola S. Davis, 88, died June 17, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born July 12, 1914, in West Point, Miss., daughter of the late T.L. and Lear Green Strong, she was a member of Olive Missionary Baptist Church in New Madrid, where she served on the Usher Board.

On Oct. 16, 1938, she married Sylvester Davis, who preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1947.

Survivors include: two sons, Willie Tumble Jr. of New Madrid and Steven Davis Sr. of St. Louis; two daughters, Dorothy Tumble and Lillie Farr of New Madrid; and two sisters, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

One sister and one brother also preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home, where Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Olive Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Leotis Aikens officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
