STE. GENEVIEVE - The Sikeston Bulldog wrestling team fell to 2-5 in dual matches on the season with a 58-21 loss at state-ranked Ste. Genevieve on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs had just four winners, including Andy Croxford, who won by forfeit.
The others were Adam Miller (119 pounds), Cody Weeks (140) and Joe Johnson (heavyweight).
"They all wrestled well," said Sikeston head coach Chris Hodgkiss. "Joe's been wrestling better since he's been healthy and Adam's been wrestling steady for the last few weeks."
Miller pinned Jeremy Herman in 1:19, Johnson pinned Mike Prahl in 1:45 and Weeks defeated Randy Lurk by a score of 7-4.
"I expected the score to be a little closer than what it was," said Hodgkiss. "We need to be able to get over our opponents' name of who we're wrestling. We need to wrestle the Ste. Gens, the Farmingtons and Jacksons with as much confidence as we wrestle everybody else. A lot of these kids have really improved. They need to have that same confidence night in and night out regardless of who they wrestle."
Sikeston forfeited the first two matches in the 103 and 112 classes to put themselves into a hole right off the bat.
In the rest of the matches: Shawn Cooper (125) was pinned in 1:12 by Dylan Huck; Cody Ryan (130) was pinned in 2:57 by Taylor Huck; Kyle Weeks (135) lost 10-2 to Tanner Wolk; Tony Reynolds (145) was pinned in 1:25 by Josh Swartz; Lance Berry (152) was pinned in 3:00 by Derek Wolk; Ken Masegian (160) was pinned in 2:26 by Nick Bauman; Scotty Keenan (171) was pinned in 1:32 by Joe Bauman; and Malcolm Williams (189) was pinned in 2:33 by Travis Gettinger.
The Bulldogs will try to get back on track with a dual match at Dexter on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The junior varsity wrestling team lost 54-9 to Ste. Genevieve. Sikeston's only winners were Zack Casey (171) and Kyle Rodgers (215).
