MALDEN -- Malden cruised past East Prairie on Friday night, posting a 53-8 win to improve to 4-5 on the season.

The Green Wave led 46-0 at halftime.

"We didn't play very well, and the score indicates that," said East Prairie coach Ken Latham. "We didn't have a lot of fire for some reason, and that hasn't been in our character this year. That's what is disappointing. Even though we might be beat, normally the kids play hard and get after it."

Karrington Rogers scored Malden's first touchdown on an 82-yard pass from quarterback Scott Matthews. Bruising running back John Sutton scored later in the quarter from four yards out to make it 13-0.

In the second, Kyle Jones caught a 10-yard TD pass from Matthews, Sutton scored on a 9-yard run, Jamall Kilgore returned an interception 13 yards for a TD, Kilgore scored on a 38-yard run, then Josh Coons scored on a 30-yard fumble recovery.

In the third quarter, Malden's Adam Neal scored on a 49-yard run to make it 53-0.

Brent Harland scored East Prairie's only touchdown with 3:45 left in the game on a 20-yard run. Matt Boyer ran in the 2-point conversion to make the final score 53-8.

"They did score two touchdowns off our offense, so it wasn't completely our defense's fault," said Latham. "Their offensive and defensive lines really dominated us. It made it tough on us."

Harland led the Eagles with 102 yards on 11 carries. Josh Boyer finished with 33 yards.

Quarterback Matt Boyer threw for 110 yards on 6-of-24 passing with three interceptions.

Kaleb Thurman had two catches for 17 yards and Dez Johnson had four receptions for 93 yards.
