SIKESTON - Scott County went Democratic from top to bottom of the ticket in the general election Tuesday but the vote was extremely light. Unofficial returns include Cecil C. Reed (R) 2,644 and David E. Blanton (D) 3,686 for Recorder of Deeds; Joe A. Hawkins (R) 2,500 and C.E. Felker (D) 3,111 for Collector of Revenue; W.A. Georger (R) 1,860 and Hess Porter (D) 3,742 for Treasurer; and for Constable of Richland Township, Gord Dill (R) 756 to George Soufert (D) 1,332.

SIKESTON - A baby boy arrived Nov. 3 at Missouri Delta Community Hospital for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Flowers of Dexter.

BENTON - Voters thronged to the polls in Scott County with 16,635 people casting their ballots on numerous races on the state and federal level. Scott County voters gave Democrat Bill Clinton the nod in the presidential race with 7,452 votes to George Bush's 6,265. Republican Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond secured his footing in the county with a 9,001 to 6,565 margin victory over opponent Geri Rothman-Serot, Democrat. In the match-up for Eighth District Congressman, incumbent Bill Emerson, Republican, held off yet another attempt by Thad Bullock, Democrat. Emerson gathered 10,149 votes compared to 5,724 for Bullock. Mel Carnahan, Democrat, prevailed over Bill Webster, Republican in the gubernatorial race with the candidates collecting 8,422 and 7,564 votes respectively.
