SIKESTON - Honor and proficiency rolls for the first quarter of the school year were announced today in senior high school. Honor roll seniors were: Charles Boyd, Mary Evelyn Chapman, Jane Cummins, Jean Cummins, Ann Draughon, Billy Foley Jr., Harold Lindley Jr., Shirley Shainberg, Frank Stevens, John Stewart, Alice Van Horne, Dorothy Vaughn and Edwin Webster. Juniors were: Mary Ellen Bailey, Tessie Ingram, Jeanne Jackson, Mildred Lambert, Grace Marie Sitzes, Billy Wagner and Laverne Yoffie.
EAST PRAIRIE - Mr. and Mrs. Warren Belvin of East Prairie are parents of a baby boy born in the Missouri Delta Community Hospital in Sikeston.
SIKESTON - A check for $100 presented by Neva Pharris for the Flower Basket helped the Sikeston United Way toward its goal. Gary L. Speer, Okeechobee District of Boy Scouts of America, accepted the donation on behalf of the United Way.
SIKESTON - Members of the Missouri Delta Medical Center Auxiliary broke new ground recently when they voted to participate in the Caring Program for Children. The auxiliary is the first Sikeston organization to support the program, which provides limited health care to children who don't qualify for Medicaid and have parents who can't afford insurance.
BENTON - The Scott County Commission recently approved and signed a bid contract for painting and remodeling the Circuit Courtroom and surrounding areas. The contract was awarded to Reeves and Brown of Scott City for a bid of $16,200. Work will include painting the walls and ceiling surfaces, wood trim on doors and windows, cleaning and painting the judge's bench.
