EAST PRAIRIE - Bertie Lawrence Hale, 86, died at 7 a.m. Feb. 26, 2005, at his home.

Born Jan. 17, 1919, in Pettit Jean Mountain, Ark., son of the late James and Ethel Cunningham Hale, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life where he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church in East Prairie.

In January 1936, he married Carrie Roberds who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Danny Hale of East Prairie; two brothers, Lowell Hale of Pekin, Ill., and Eugene Hale of Morristown, Tenn.; one sister, Pauline Cooper of St. James; two grandchildren, Jason Hale and Stephanie Hale of East Prairie; and two great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with Jim Quist, officiating.

Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Donnie Wolford, J.D. Swain, Jon Hutcheson, Rick Givens, Clay Whitaker and Charles Brown.
