SIKESTON - The Sikeston School System, together with civic organizations of the town, has agreed to launch a campaign by selling enough war stamps and bonds to purchase, within a month, a bomber, which may be named by students.

SIKESTON - Scouts John Carpenter and Sam Parmenter were given recognition by the National Court of Honor Wednesday for performing an act of mercy. Because of their first aid training, an 11-year-old boy who had been injured along the highway is alive today.

SIKESTON - Eight Sikeston High School wrestlers are bound for Wednesday's sectional tournament - the last hurdle before state competition - after finishing in the top four in their weight classes at the district meet here Friday and Saturday. Two Bulldogs took two district firsts. Terry Ruby, 126 pounds, avenged his only loss of the season by beating Cape Central's Lance McKinney 10-4 in the finals. Tim Thomure, 138, who like Ruby advanced Saturday's finals by winning two matches Friday, scored a 7-2 win over Northwest's Jeff Baumgartner to take the first place medal.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs varsity wrestling team is ready for this weekend's regional met at Oakville. Team members are Jeremy Ryan, Chris Hodgkiss, Jerry Winberry, Andre Blanks, Kenny Hodgkiss, Andrew Boldrey, Edward Felker, Kevin McCord, Jason Landers, Nathan Stallings, Keith McCord and Ray McCord.


BENTON - Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Christy Baker-Neel said Friday her appointment of an assistant prosecutor could come as early as Wednesday. The field of candidates has been narrowed to three.
