SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School band and glee club will present a concert Sunday in the gymnasium. The band has 76 members and is under the direction of Keith Collins. The 43-member glee club is supervised by Sarah Ann Mitchell and accompanied by Evelyn Klein.

DEXTER - International Shoe Co. announced Thursday it will close the plant here in late March. The lack of operations will affect 350 employees who are engaged in the manufacture of juvenile shoes.

SIKESTON - John Marshall, manager of Simpson Oil Co., a subsidiary of Sinclair Oil and Refining Co., here left for a vacation in Florida Friday and last night the company office was broken into. Approximately $850 in checks and money, as well as all other papers kept in the office safe were stolen.

EAST PRAIRIE - Avon Representative Onieta Brown was recently awarded a diamond--detailed watch from District Manager Carolyn Williams of Sikeston for being "the best" in her district.

SIKESTON - Remodeling work is under way at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety office building, thanks to DPS personnel like Lt. Dan Armour, who is serving as a carpenter for the project. The cost for the construction and remodeling is expected to be between $10,000 and $15,000. To cut down on costs, DPS personnel are doing much of the work.

MINER - Election time is approaching and several candidates have already announced their bids in city and school races. A few more candidates have stepped forward to file for four seats in city government, but Miner's city clerk hasn't been overwhelmed.
