SIKESTON - Pvt. Thomas B. and Mrs. Dye of Vanduser are parents of an 9 1/4-pound baby boy, born at the Sikeston General Hospital. Private Dye, who is stationed in Texas, visited his wife and baby last weekend.

SIKESTON - St. Paul's Episcopal Church has a new official family, according to the Rev. William Chapman, vicar of the church. The Right Rev. George Cadigan of Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis, bishop of Missouri, recently reappointed Kenneth Smitten as warden and Peter Myers of Canalou as treasurer.

SIKESTON - The Bulls won the Buddy League crown in Sikeston Little League Basketball Tournament action Saturday by grounding the Cardinals 37-17 in the finals. The Bulls were 7-0 in the regular season and undefeated in two tournament outings. Members of the squad are Paul Shelby, Cory Stotts, Denton Oelger, Darin Newton, Robbie Rodgers, Shawn Ruffin, Chris Ryan and Greg Byrd. The team's coaches are Ron Newton and Ron Ryan.


SIKESTON - Tim Thomure, Sikeston's 138-pound varsity wrestler, will figure in one of the Bulldogs' key matches when the squad hosts Jackson.

CHARLESTON - Jinxed again. New Madrid County Central beat Charleston for the third time this season - 38-37 - on Thursday, knocking the Bluejays out of the Charleston Invitational with two tournament losses.


SIKESTON - Heyde Elizabeth Potashnick, 18, is the Standard Democrat Calendar Girl for February. The Sikeston High School senior is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morton Potashnick. She plans to attend Northwestern University and major in broadcast journalism.
