SIKESTON - A daughter weighing 8 3/4 pounds was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Poyner of New Madrid Route 1 at the Sikeston General Hospital.

SIKESTON - The Registered Nurses Association met at its regular monthly business session at the Missouri Delta Community Hospital cafeteria with around 50 registered nurses present from the area. Art Walhausen, publisher of the Charleston Enterprise Courier, was guest speaker.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Junior Girl Scout Troop 30 visited residents of the Sikeston Convalescent Center on Jan. 20. The Scouts entertained the senior citizens by singing several of their favorite Girl Scout songs. Participating in the activity were Jennifer Cowan, Heath Floyd, Amy Graham, Stephanie Jenkins, leader Melissa Holt, Carrie Stewart, Penny Shuffit, Tina Seabaugh, Susan Hubbert, Teresa Evans, Jennifer Riley, Holly Watkins, Tonya Beck and leader Vera Glueck.

SIKESTON - Several area schools are celebrating their 100th day of classes by conducting a variety of activities for the students. Children at the Sikeston Kindergarten Center participated in numerous events, including a Hat Day contest.


CHARLESTON - Charleston boys basketball coach and athletic director Lennies McFerren said today that he couldn't elaborate on televised reports that he may be leaving the school. A report on an area news broadcast Thursday said McFerren was considering taking another unspecified job. He would not elaborate on the school or whether it was on the collegiate or high school level. "It's a possibility that I may be leaving, but that's all I can say," said McFerren, who's spent the past 18 years at Charleston High.
