MINER - The Miner Board of Alderman passed an ordinance prohibiting the consumption of alcohol by minors.
Joe P. Fuchs, Miner's city attorney, explained during the board's regular meeting Tuesday that although the ordinance prohibiting possession of alcohol technically covers consumption, too, this new ordinance will "expand and enhance" the possession ordinance and eliminate potential arguments.
The fine is $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense and $300 for a third offense plus a minimum of 20 hours of community service.
In other business addressed Tuesday, the board voted to not pay A.C. James for expenses incurred as a result of his contractor being ordered to halt by city officials. Alderman Mitch Thompson said as there were no permits issued, the city can not pay James' bill.
The board also clarified rules for political campaigning by the volunteer firemen.
