SIKESTON - Murray Phillips, Sikeston chairman of the United Service Organization Inc., announced today plans which he expressed hope would culminate in the location here of a USO center for service men.
CHARLESTON - The development of a 33-acre subdivision is now in the final states on North Main Road in Charleston, according to L.D. Davis, manager of the East Prairie Lumber Company.
CHARLESTON - George Roberts, member of the Charleston High School faculty for the past 15 years, has accepted the position of office manager of the ACS in Mississippi County.
BENTON - A 16-unit senior citizens housing project has been completed and is ready for occupancy. The project, located on Amity Street, will be open to the public from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Persons will be available at that time to take applications and give tours. The senior citizen housing project includes one-bedroom units with a living room, kitchen and bath. Two of the units are designed to serve handicapped persons.

MORLEY - The talk must have done its job. With 3:59 to go in the first quarter Tuesday, Scott County Central coach Ronnie Cookson called time out. Down 14-9 to East Prairie, it could only help. The final score was a 94-61 win over East Prairie.
ESSEX - Since 1972, Jim Lawrence has gone above and beyond the call of duty as superintendent of Richland Schools. Lawrence admits he will miss the education field, it has been a part of him for 30 1/2 years. Besides being superintendent, he has been a teacher and principal. Leaving has not been something the retiring educator has done on a whim.
