BENTON - In circuit court this morning, Judge Marshall Craig of the 33rd Judicial Circuit issued an order suspending Lloyd G. "Jerry" Briggs from office as clerk of the circuit court. Reasons listed included failure to perform his duties as required by law. Briggs is attending the School of Law at Birmingham, Ala.
EAST PRAIRIE - The week of Feb. 6-12 has been designated National Boy Scout Anniversary Week and a proclamation proclaiming the week in East Prairie has been signed by Mayor Bobby Owens.
SIKESTON - Eighth District Rep. Bill Emerson today announced that two area students are among five students nominated for entrance into military service academies later this year. Nominees include Timothy Joseph Thomure of Sikeston, U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and Emelly Michiko Darby of Chaffee, nominated to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.

Although maintaining law and order is still their primary function, a modern world has brought with it modern problems. The Scott County Sheriff's Department transports mental health patients several times a month.
MATTHEWS - Chris and Christie Garner of Matthews are the parents of their third child, second daughter, born at 2:20 a.m. Jan. 25, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Crystal Leeann Garner arrived weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19-inches long.
