ST. PETERS - Lorna Belle Ray, 93, formerly of Bernie, died Nov. 5, 2002, at the St. Peters Manor Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 1, 1909, in Petersburg, Ill., daughter of the late Matthew and Chloe Jane Collins Sinclair, she was valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She was a seamstress at the Garment Factory in Malden for 20 years before retiring, had attended the Missionary Alliance Church of Bernie and was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church in rural Bernie.
In March 1935, at Petersburg, she married Dolen Brooks Ray who preceded her in death in March 1971.
Survivors include: one son, John Ray of O'Fallon; two daughters, Elsie Keller of Malden and Ethyle Enderle of Fisk; one brother, Dale Sinclair of Petersburg; one sister, Louise Janet of Petersburg; and 20 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Dolen Ray Jr. and Charles Ray Sinclair; four daughters, Eunice Radamacher, Donna Mattingly, Chloe Ray and Versal Ray; two brothers, John Sinclair and Raymond Sinclair; and three sisters, Thelma Kren, Laura Walsh and Emmaline Morris.
Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Scott Keller will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
