Forfeits hurt 'Dogs in match against Dexter

DEXTER - The Sikeston wrestling team fell to 2-6 on the season in dual matches with a 42-33 loss on the road to Dexter on Thursday.

The Bulldogs forfeited three matches which contributed to the Dexter win.

Outside of forfeits, Sikeston tied the Bearcats 5-5 in matches. The Bulldogs also had more pins (4-3) than the Bearcats.

"The forfeits definitely hurt, but I don't like to use that as an excuse," said Sikeston head coach Chris Hodgkiss. "Dexter did what they had to do to win the dual meet."

Sikeston forfeited the 103, 112 and 145 classes to McClintock, Justin McCulloch and Chris Wyatt respectively.

The Bulldogs got one forfeit win at the 140 class for Cody Weeks.

Here are the results from Thursday's match with Sikeston listed first: Adam Miller (119) lost 9-7 to Brody Roper; Cody Ryan (125) pinned Nick Lillard in 1:10; Shawn Cooper (130) was pinned by Cory Hampton in 1:41; Kyle Weeks (135) pinned Jordan Sielart in 1:11; Lance Berry (152) pinned Aaron Reese in 4:24; Ken Masegian (160) was pinned by Heath Cox in 1:04; Scotty Keenan (171) won 8-4 over Tyler Christian; Malcolm Williams (189) was pinned by Mark Thrower in 1:33; Andy Croxford (215) lost 5-1 to Ben Robinson; and Joe Johnson (heavyweight) pinned Josh Robinson in 2:38.

The Bulldogs will wrestle at Poplar Bluff on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a dual meet.

Sikeston won the junior varsity match 36-12 to improve to 3-5 on the season.

Sikeston's winners were Travis Cummins (135), Trey Oetting (145), Cullen Looney (152), Todd Sloan (160) and Kyle Rodgers (215).
