CHARLESTON - The Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed drug charges Monday against two East Prairie men in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation.
Jimmy Conyers, 42, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute and Daniel Ledbetter, 35, was charged with distribution of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. Warrants were issued for both defendants and Judge T. Lynn Brown set bond at $50,000 each.
The investigation into the suspects culminated Sunday when a search warrant was executed at Conyers' residence on Cranford Street in East Prairie. During the search, a large quantity of marijuana was seized by the East Prairie Police Department. The investigation is continuing and more charges may be filed.
Each of the charges carry a range of punishment of five to 15 years in prison. Conyers and Ledbetter are expected to appear in court on Jan. 22, when a preliminary hearings will be scheduled.
