PARK HILLS -- The Sikeston wrestling team took second place in the 10-team Park Hills Central Invitational on Saturday.
The Bulldogs finished with 250 1/2 points which was right behind first place DeSoto with 266 1/2 points.
Herculaneum took third place with 230 1/2 points. Dexter took sixth place with 167 points while New Madrid County Central finished in eighth place with 109 points.
"I was pleased with the way we wrestled," said Sikeston head coach Chris Hodgkiss. "You'd always like to get first, but this is the best tournament that we've wrestled top to bottom. I thought all of our kids performed well."
For Sikeston, Adam Miller (125 pounds), Kyle Weeks (135) and Lance Berry (152) all took first place with respective 5-0 records. Scotty Keenan (171) was undefeated at 4-0 but took second place due to an injury default when he suffered a mild concussion.
Three other Sikeston wrestlers made it to the finals but lost in the championship match. They were Cody Weeks (140), Malcolm Williams (189) and Joe Johnson (heavyweight). Weeks and Johnson had 4-1 records while Williams wrestled back through the loser's bracket to make it to the finals, finishing with a 3-2 mark.
Other wrestlers that placed were Andy Croxford (215), third place with a 4-1 mark; Tony Reynolds (145), fourth place with a 3-2 mark; Shawn Cooper (119), fifth place with a 2-3 mark; and Cody Ryan (130), seventh place with a 2-3 mark.
"We had seven wrestlers in the finals -- I thought that was pretty impressive on their part," said Hodgkiss. "Malcolm Williams wrestling all the way to the finals is big for him. Andy Croxford and Tony Reynolds both had big tournaments. This will be big for their confidence."
Sikeston will host NMCC in a dual match today at 6:30 p.m. at the Field House.
